Shabbat Snacks

Why is it that on Shabbat, everyone is hungry?

This post will hopefully help you fill those incredible rumbly little tummies when you can’t prepare a full meal.

Here are some snacks that we like to enjoy on Shabbat.

  • cheese and crackers
  • shabbatfruit
  • muffins
  • ants on logs (celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins)
  • carrot sticks
  • veggie or chip dip (Easy recipe: 24 oz cottage cheese, dried onions, chicken bouillion, and lemon juice, all to taste: mix in blender for an awesome chip or veggie dip)
  • chocolate chip cookies
  • homemade ginger snaps
  • hard boiled eggs
  • frog’s eggs pudding (2 c milk, 1/2 c chia seeds, 2 T br. sugar, 1 t vanilla, pinch salt: blend in bowl, leave for half to one hour, and enjoy) The name came from the kids when they saw that it looks unbelievably like frog eggs and the name stuck lol.
  • peanut butter balls (get the recipe in this book!)
  • water kefir (make one gallon and add 1/4 c lemon juice, 1/4 c lime juice)
  • many great ideas in the ebook Healthy Snacks to Go
  • carrot sticks, broccoli, and cauliflower
  • dried fruit and nuts
  • peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or meat and cheese sandwiches
  • quesadillas for when the sun goes down a bit earlier on Shabbat (fill tortillas with grated cheddar cheese and bake at 500 deg about 5 min. Add sprouts after cooking to add something special.)
  • popcorn made ahead
  • granola bars

I hope these ideas keep everyone full and happy on Shabbat. What little snacks do you like to prepare for Shabbat? Please share your ideas or recipes below. 🙂

  1. yummy yummy! those peanut butter balls sounds delicious, and I love ants on a log too! You have inspired me to make some new shabbat snacks!! Shabbat Shalom!

  2. great list! I just made the frog’s eggs pudding, but I think I’ll have to call it something else otherwise my kids might think I’m trying to make them eat something unkosher!

thanks again for all the ideas 🙂

    1. Isn’t it great to have kids that are concerned about what they eat? My kids named it so they knew it was okay lol. But the resemblance is uncanny. Shabbat Shalom!

  3. – raw veggie rolls with wheat tortillas or flatbread
    – raw rice paper wraps (avocado, carrot, cabbage etc.)
    – crackers with nut butter
    – homemade potato chips with black bean dip
    – dark chocolate covered dried cherries

  4. We like homemade yogurt and granola. Every other shabbat or so I also make Chewy Chocolate Bars: 1 c. almond butter, 3 c. coconut (unsweetened), 1/2 c. cocoa powder, 2/3 c. raw honey, 1 tsp. salt. Mix until well blended. Press into 9 x 13 dish, or roll into balls. Chill and enjoy! One of my kids’ favorites.
