I’m so excited to be able to write a journal entry again. I’ve been working hard on a schedule to allow more time for what’s important, more on that later. 🙂
Offer thanks for?
Isn’t it great when you can truly be thankful for both sides of the coin? Doug was off work for about two weeks due to technical problems with paperwork he needed to fly. I was so thankful for him being home. He helped me fix meals, chatted with me in the morning over coffee, watched movies with the kids in the evening. It was a great two weeks. And then I was so thankful when the paper came in the mail and he could go back to work, and we could continue paying the bills! Perhaps this is true contentment, being able to be thankful for whatever YHVH brings into my life.
I cleaned the bathroom yesterday, and I mean, scrub behind the toilet kind of clean. To be completely honest, cleaning is not where my strength of character lies. But Doug and I were talking about mildew and Torah. Could it be possible that the leprosy that can get into a house is something like mildew? I have not been faithful to address that, because I don’t thoroughly clean anything. But that is going to change. I asked Doug to help me by giving me small doable jobs each day, so I can stay motivated to properly clean the house. After all, it’s a Torah thing.
Okay, I’m going to admit something to you and you promise not to laugh, right? Have you noticed that sometimes we can climb a mountain and then trip over a toothpick? Doug and I just went through this huge faithbuilding experience, learning to trust YHVH with providing for us. And then I set up an online party and start to freak out on how it’s going to go. *Hiding under a rock now* Thankfully, I’m feeling better now. YHVH is faithful in the big things and the little things!
Teach my children?
My parents did a great job of keeping us kids informed. I remember my dad losing his job a couple different times, and we went through it as a family. I have always tried to do the same with my children. In the past two weeks, they were troopers. They kept asking, “Did Dad get his paper yet?” They prayed for their daddy, and offered to sell some of their things to help out. Real life not only teaches us, but it teaches our children. I talk more about this in my book The Children’s Ketubbah Project.
Study and learn?
I have been studying about how our metabolism works. Basically, our body functions best when it gets sufficient food and sufficient sleep. It functions poorly under stress. Making good food choices is important, but getting enough food and not stressing over our food choices is even more important. I realized that my absentminded skipping of meals over the past several years and staying up late has been really bad! So I’m working on it. You might enjoy reading The Nourished Metabolism and Real Food for Real Life. They’re pricey, so if you happen to see them on sale, that’s to time to grab them. 🙂
I derive great enjoyment from watching my many little birdies. They are content to scratch and peck and slip through my fence. I like to just sit on the chicken coop steps and watch them. Do you have a way to connect with nature? It’s a very good thing.
Help me be a better ezer (helpmeet). Help me trust You.
What is this week’s Torah portion and what did I learn from it?
I would like to share a Psalm this week that was a tremendous blessing to us.
Psa 54:1 O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might.
Psa 54:2 O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.
Psa 54:3 For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah.
Psa 54:4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.
Psa 54:5 He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.
Psa 54:6 With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.
Psa 54:7 For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
