Discussion questions

Who were Yeshua’s earthly parents?

What tribe did Joseph come from? Why was it important that Yeshua come from that line?

What does Yeshua mean? (We learned to write Yeshua in Hebrew letters, and then wrote the meaning ‘He will save.’)

Who was the ruling power at the time?

When is Yeshua’s birthday? (Hint: not December 25) Many believe that Yeshua was born during the Fall feasts. Do some research to learn more! Also, discuss why it is important to realize that Yeshua was not born on December 25.

What is a census?

What is bethrothal? What is divorce?

Activities

Color a picture. Here’s a page full of nativity pictures. We used #3.

Study the Romans. We colored a picture.

Find Nazareth and Bethlehem on a map. We plan to mark locations on the map throughout our study. We are using Wondermaps. You can read my review of it here.

Act out the story with props, like the kids’ dolls and stuffed animals.

Have the children make their own illustrations of the story.

To add more depth to the study, read the surrounding verses as well as look up the corresponding prophecies in the Old Testament.
