A praise and YHVH’s provisions

I’m very protective of my prep days. I’m a one event per day kind of person, and getting ready for Shabbat is my one event for the day. I made a list with 22 items. I crossed off three, and sat down to eat some edible creation that Holly had fixed for me.

“Mom, my eyes are kind of blurry. I can’t see part of your face.”

Immediately, I had flashbacks to 1969. (I was born in 1979.) My mom was 18 years old when she had a retinal detachment and lost the sight in her left eye. She had often described the sensation of seeing static. Holly was now describing seeing gray and little flashes. Time to panic! No, we are not going to panic, because we have been trying really hard to trust YHVH.

Instead of panic, we choose to have a sound mind, and kick fear to the curb. There’s a verse about that! Can you find it?

I called my mom. She gave me the name and phone number of the best eye doctor. (Number 1 of YHVH’s provisions.)

I called Doug. He totally backed my decision to get her in asap and offered to rush home to take care of the kids. (Number 2 of YHVH’s provisions.)

After grabbing some diapers and running back in the house for Caleb’s sippy cup, I got in Doug’s car, which happens to be an automatic. Praise YHVH that we bought that instead of a stick shift, which I cannot drive.

I picked up my mom (totally awesome at asking doctors questions) and she motioned me to move over to her car. (Number 3 of YHVH’s provisions. She has AC.)

Poor Holly was now light sensitive and nauseous. Her eyes were actually hurting. There was definitely something wrong. When we got to the office, the staff had Holly in a chair being looked at before I even finished the sign in form. (Number 4 of YHVH’s provisions.)

She had to get her eyes dilated. I had my sunglasses. (Number 5 of YHVH’s provisions.)

Now, would you like to know why I’m praising YHVH? (He had already helped us in so many amazing ways.) She was suffering from an ocular migraine, not a retinal detachment. An ocular migraine, while similar in symptoms to a retinal detachment, goes away in 30-60 minutes, which Holly’s did. A retinal detachment doesn’t tend to involve pain and doesn’t go away. The doctor will be closely monitoring her eyes because of several risk factors, one of which is a tremendous family history of detachments. I am so thankful that she is fine.

We also got home with enough time to make coffee cake for Shabbat. (Number 6 of YHVH’s provisions.) Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go soak my feet.

How has YHVH provided for you lately?

It is so important to tell our children when YHVH answers prayers in our lives. We want them to see YHVH’s hand in their lives. You may want to create a memorial jar to help you record answers to prayer, blessings, and things you are thankful for. You can download the printable below.

  1. Oh what a day! It’s so awesome how Abba is right there in the midst of our crises! We’ve had several experiences like that and seeing how He meets our needs and orchestrates things better than we ever could is truly humbling. What an awesome and mighty Elohim we serve! Joining you in praise that you’re little one is ok and for the lesson in trust He helps us to learn!
