Psalm 1

April 2, 2020 by Heidi Leave a Comment

Looking for a simple way to incorporate some Scripture and simple learning into your homeschool? These worksheets and resources are just the thing. The worksheets can be downloaded by simply clicking on the image. They have a verse for copywork, and some simple science or history related activities to go with the verse. I have also included links to additional coloring pages, videos, and activities that will go along with the verse. Today’s lesson is all about Psalm 1.

All verses are from the Webster Bible, translated by Noah Webster in 1833, and part of the public domain.

Psalm 1

Happy is the one who has not walked in the advice of the wicked, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seat of scoffers.

But his delight is in the Torah of Adonai, and on His Torah he meditates day and night.

He will be like a planted tree over streams of water, producing its fruit during its season. Its leaf never droops- but in all he does, he succeeds.

Psalm 1:1-3 TLV

Character lesson

Start by reading all of Psalm 1 in your choice of translation. Today’s passage helps us to understand the definition of true success. The person that YHVH describes as successful is not necessarily rich or famous. Rather, he has chosen to make his decisions based on Torah, not other people’s opinions.

I remember hearing a story about a barrel of apples when I was young. If you have a barrel full of fresh, beautiful apples, and throw a rotten one in, the barrel will go rotten. But, if you have a barrel of rotten apples and throw a fresh one in, the apples don’t turn fresh. It’s the same with people. The bad ones tend to influence the good ones, not the other way around. We need to choose carefully who we listen to and spend time with. We should be kind to all, but we should measure carefully who we hang out with, or take advice from. Those closest to us should encourage us to keep Torah and follow Yeshua.

A truly successful person is also known for filling their minds and days with Torah. You should be reading Scripture each day, thinking about it, and looking for ways to better obey YHVH. That’s what it means to meditate. We fill our thoughts with it.

Do you need help bringing Torah into your school day? It can be challenging to know where to start or how to teach your children. That’s why I created Torah Learning Made Simple, my method for teaching Torah alongside other school subjects.

WHAT IS THE TORAH FAMILY LIVING PLANNER?

It’s an annual physical planner that helps Torah observant moms be more intentional with their time and lives by organizing the details in a pretty and open-ended format. We as moms have a lot going on, even if we stay at home most days. So many details can slip through the cracks without a plan for organizing and remembering them. The Torah Family Living planner helps you with the details, and also reminds you to prioritize your Torah journey.

WHO AM I?

I am a mom, just like many of you. I used to be very disorganized, and important things got forgotten all the time. (Yes, I even missed a mortgage payment once.) Even my marriage was suffering because I was forgetting to do things that my husband had asked me to take care of. I knew I had to change, so I started with a notebook, and over time and with trial and error, I designed the Torah Family Living planner. It now goes with me everywhere and is used many times every day.

I have been a paper planner user for many years now. I know that my brain benefits from writing things down, and I feel more grounded knowing that I have at least a rough plan for my day. I am so excited to be able to finally bring you a planner designed just for moms on this Torah journey. I have tried to pack as many Torah keeping features as I could into this package, and try to keep it from feeling like an encyclopedia. If you need help deciding how to customize your planner before buying, please contact me. I would be happy to help you get the features you need to get the most benefit from your planner.

If you’ve felt overwhelmed and disorganized trying to keep track of all the things, I guarantee that the first time you actually remember to thaw the meat because you planned dinner, the overwhelm will begin to lift. Your good intentions will start to pay off, because one glance in your planner will tell you what Torah portion to read this Shabbat. You will feel on fire as a Torah observant mom when you use the feast day planning pages to get ready for the next holy day, rather than realizing Sukkot starts in a week. Having everything in one place is life changing, and enables you to go from pulling out your hair to calm, cool, and collected.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE FEATURES.

This planner is handmade by me. The pages are printed on 24 lb paper for durability, and the covers are 10 mil laminate. Your planner will also have two clip in bookmarks, one to mark the current month, and one for the current week. A pen loop is attached to the back cover as well. Many of my customers have happily reported that their planner survives a year of use quite beautifully because of the durability.

*Front and back laminated covers

*Shema, Amidah, Lord’s Prayer, and priestly blessing

*Goal pages to help you improve your relationship with YHVH and your family

*Prayer request pages in the front

*Scripture copywork suggestions

*12 dated calendar spreads (July 2022-June 2023)

*52 undated weekly spreads with Shabbat planning section and shopping list on each

*44+ blank pages, including lined, blank and gridded to use as you see fit

*Feast day planning pages with ideas for celebrating each feast and appropriate Scripture passages

*Feast days stickers and omer counter stickers to put in your monthly spreads (Jewish dates are listed with stickers for your reference.)

*Torah portion and haftarah portion passages on each Shabbat

*Two clear plastic bookmarks that can be moved

*Pen loop inside back cover

*200+ pages

*Spiral binding or disc binding, your choice

*Page size: 7 x 9.5 inches or 5.5 x 8.5 your choice

You may now choose between spiral bound and disc bound for your planner. Please choose one option by clicking the appropriate button near the add to cart button. You can also add the following additional sections for an additional price. This allows you to customize your planner with exactly the features you need.

HOMESCHOOL SECTION UPGRADE

There is now an additional homeschool section available for an additional $9. The homeschool section will be added to your planner, and consists of 66 pages (8 student planning spreads, attendance record, field trip pages, reading logs, media logs, and assignment record sheets). This section will work for up to 8 students. Please check the homeschool section box above the add to cart button. These homeschool specific pages are only added to your planner if you check the box. Otherwise you will receive the basic planner.

HOMEMAKING AND BUDGET SECTION UPGRADE

I am excited to be able to add an optional budget and cleaning schedule section for an additional $9. It includes 12 monthly budget sections, 6 savings goal pages, several debt tracker pages, and 12 master cleaning spreads, designed to help you organize tasks by daily, weekly, and monthly. The budget pages are somewhat open-ended, so you can use them as you see fit. If you have used them in the past, I added more lines and a place to keep totals. You can download a simple version of the budget sheets, to see how they will work for you, before deciding to add them to your planner. Just as with the optional homeschool section, you need to check the box above the add to cart button to receive this additional section.

IS IT REALLY WORTH IT?

Yes, you can get a calendar at the dollar store or large department store. But, be mindful of the limitations. They are cheaply made and fall apart well before the calendar runs out. The boxes are way too small to actually plan out your day. There are no Torah features, such as Shabbat, feast day pages, Torah portion readings, and prayers. They also have a hugely annoying lack – no note pages! Many planners sold online are beautiful, but are so detailed that you have to use them exactly as intended. I don’t know about you, but I change how I use my planner, sometimes on a weekly basis. I have used lots of different methods for planning my time, and the Torah Family Living planner has accommodated them all. If you need some ideas on different ways to use your planner, I am available to help you.

When you buy the Torah Family Living planner, you also have support from me. I can help you get a system going, and show you some of the ways I have used my planner. I also am happy to help if you have anything happen to your planner, such as a torn page. Just let me know if you have any problems, and we will find a solution.
