Matthew 7:24-27 lesson plan

April 16, 2020 by Heidi Leave a Comment

Looking for a simple way to incorporate some Scripture and simple learning into your homeschool? These worksheets and resources are just the thing. The worksheets can be downloaded by simply clicking on the button under the worksheet heading. They have a verse for copywork, and some simple science or history related activities to go with the verse. I have also included links to additional coloring pages, videos, and activities that will go along with the verse. Today’s lesson is all about Matthew 7:24-27.

All verses are from the Webster Bible, translated by Noah Webster in 1833, and part of the public domain.

Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and yet it did not fall, for its foundation had been built on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and it fell- and great was its fall.

Matthew 7:24-27 TLV

Character lesson

Yeshua taught that a well-lived life is built on a solid foundation. What is this foundation? We need to live our lives based on what Scripture says. The Bible is the words of YHVH written for us to know how to live.

If you compare the Bible to a house, the Torah (first five books of the Bible) would make the foundation. In these books, we learn about the origin of life. We are introduced to YHVH, the One True God. We are shown what He expects of us. We are also given the promise of the Redeemer, Yeshua, who would take the punishment for our sin.

The rest of the Old Testament consists of the history of the nation of Israel, and YHVH’s prophets. We also have important writings such as Proverbs and Psalms that give us the meaning behind the commands, and the emotional component of following YHVH.

The New Testament gives us details of the life of Yeshua, our perfect Messiah and Redeemer. He lived a perfect life to show us how to perfectly live out YHVH’s commands. Then He died in our place, and came back to life after three days. We also find several letters in the New Testament that show us more of the details and meaning of keeping YHVH’s commands.

It’s important to start at the beginning of the Bible, to give us a solid foundation of understanding. But, we also want to understand all of the house (Scripture) to see the whole picture of the truth that YHVH wants us to know.

**Note to parents: Teaching our children Torah and how YHVH wants us to live should be part of each school day, but it can feel overwhelming knowing how to start and how to go about it. I created a simple system called Torah Learning Made Simple to help you get started this week.

Further learning

Find lots of homeschool books at our used bookstore here.

Today’s passage talks a lot about both landforms (natural) and buildings (manmade). Below are resources for different landforms as well as some famous landmarks. Also, we will be looking at the Johnstown flood, an event showing just how destructive a flood can be to a community.

To further explore landforms and geography with your young children, I highly recommend Kinder-pants geography from With the Huddlestons. My children have enjoyed learning with this resource.

The following link is a website of almost fifty virtual tours you can take from your computer. There are several famous landmarks as you scroll down through the list, including the Great Wall of China, Mount Rushmore, Taj Mahal, and more.

Lastly, learn about the Johnstown flood, a catastrophe that happened in the 1800’s and wiped out an entire town in ten minutes.

Do you have a computer full of PDF files? Maybe, like me, you bought all kinds of homeschool printables and forgot about 80% of them. There are excellent resources available in PDF format, but it takes time and paper and ink.

I have all the equipment and supplies to do the printing and binding for you. It's easy to get those resources in print. Just count the number of pages in your file to calculate the print price, and send me your PDF file. You can include any instructions, like which page you would like to use for the cover. I'll print and bind it, and send the physical book to you.

I fully respect the property rights of the creator of any file you send. I only use them to print your file, then I delete them.

Print and bind prices include 24 lb. paper, full color printing, and covers. Files with large page counts are printed on 20 lb paper to keep the size managable. You may choose between spiral, disc and perfect (paperback) binding. Spiral and disc books have 10 mil laminated covers and quality plastic spirals or discs. They are printed at 8.5x11 page size. Paperback books have cardstock and clear contact papered covers for durability. Paperbacks are reduced in size slightly to allow for the thickness of the spine. Pricing is per page in your file, currently $0.10 per page. I print everything double-sided unless you request otherwise. You do not need to pay extra for covers or binding. The price per page is all inclusive.

I also offer laminating for $1.00 per laminating sheet. This is a great option for charts and reference materials.

Laminating styles available:

Standard 5 mil

Dry erase friendly 5 mil

Heavy duty 10 mil
