Proverbs 6:6-11

Go to the ant, you slacker- consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler. Yet it prepares its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, slacker? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep- and your poverty comes like a bandit and your need like an armed man.

Proverbs 6:6-11 TLV

Character lesson

We are taught to go to the ant to learn a very important lesson, the value of independent, hard work. An ant gets to work without being told, and would never be caught sitting around doing nothing. They work hard to prepare for the future.

We need to follow the fourth commandment which instructs us to work hard for six days and rest on the seventh day. (Shabbat) Children can learn how to work hard from a young age. They can contribute a lot to keeping a home running smoothly. Just like the ant, you can help with fixing meals, growing vegetables, and cleaning up.

What chores do you have? What could you do to help your parents more, and be more like the hard-working ant?

Worksheet

As you may have guessed, today we will be learning about ants! They are amazing creatures that live on 6 out of 7 continents and outnumber us by a long shot.
