Farmer’s Market ideas

March 31, 2022 by Heidi Leave a Comment

As we step up our homesteading game, heading to the farmer’s market with our produce has become a big goal. I want to do more than just offload extra zucchini, though. I’ve been on Pinterest, and brainstorming ideas to stand out a bit at our local farmer’s market. Here are some of my ideas.

Get an early start on planting

My husband is much better at managing seedlings than I am, so this is his department. He planted our seeds in trays way back at the end of February. This will give us an excellent head start on plants like tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and cabbage. Some vegetables could use a little head start, but didn’t need to be started by March 1st. He just planted some watermelon, for example. Vegetables like corn and beans can be planted right in the garden and do fabulously. He also tilled our garden when we had a warm day in March.

Make salsa kits

I saw ideas for making kits with your veggies on Pinterest. I make a lot of salsa, so I think this one will be really fun. I’m picturing paper lunch bags rolled down a little to make them like baskets. I’ll fill them with about 8 roma tomatoes, an onion, a bell pepper, and a couple hot peppers. I often lactoferment salsa a quart at a time, so this could be a great opportunity to educate shoppers on the benefits of fermented foods!

Hand out recipe cards to compliment our veggies

I love the idea of helping shoppers to think creatively about what they can do with the veggies they buy. My mother-in-law has a wonderful recipe for zucchini bread, which she graciously agreed to share. Pair that with pre-shredded zucchini and I think we will have a win! Keep an eye out for this recipe to be shared soon, once my daughter bakes some more and we can take some pics.

Sell reusable produce bags

I love taking my crocheted reusable produce bags to the store instead of using the flimsy plastic ones. I hope local shoppers will also love the idea of taking their farm fresh produce home in sturdy crocheted bags as well. If you aren’t going to be at my farmer’s market, you can buy the same produce bags right here.

We all know that spiritual growth is important. We know we should be praying, and reading and studying our Bibles. We know praise should be a huge part of a believer’s life. But are we doing anything about it? Are we running through each day, and collapsing in bed at night without spending even 10 minutes with our Heavenly Father?

I’ve been there. I dragged myself out of bed in the morning, tackled my to-do list, worked with the kids on their schoolwork, attempted to clean the house, and skuttled through all the other parts of my day. I meant to read my Bible. I meant to pray. But when I fell in bed at the end of the day, all I had left was a short prayer.

As with all of life, our spiritual health and growth needs to be intentional. We need some structure and a plan.

That’s where the “My Time with Adonai journal” comes into play.

I can’t check up on you to make sure you use it, but I can provide you structure and a plan.

This journal is designed to help you with your Bible study and prayer time. It is beautifully designed and decorated so that you will look forward to opening and using it every day. It is flexible and can be used for an in-depth study time, or for a quick recounting of the day’s blessings. It is divided into five sections.

PRAISE: Use this section for jotting down praises, blessings, things you are grateful for. It also takes you through a study of YHVH’s character. I put in 10 of His character qualities with verses to get you started.

ASK: This section is for listing specific prayer requests with details and dates. Did you tell a friend you would pray for them? Put their request in your journal so that you can be faithful to keep praying.

STUDY: The structure of this section is similar to the “My Bible Journal” page. One page is for copying a longer passage of Scripture. The facing page is for writing commands, sins, application, references to the Messiah, cross references, and more.

PONDER: Any Bible journal would not be complete without an unstructured section for you to write notes from a great teaching, copy down inspirational quotes, write out your prayers, or whatever you need it for. This section has plenty of lined journal pages.

READ: Consider this section the reference section. It includes lists of Scripture passages for study, prayers such as the Amidah and Daniel’s prayer, Torah portion passages, and a section for writing down your book wish list and the date you finish reading each one.

This journal was carefully designed to give you the structure and flexibility you need to sit down and spend time in the Word and in prayer. I hope you will quickly come to enjoy your time with Adonai, and grow spiritually.

This is a printable PDF. You will not receive a physical item. Download links available after purchase.
