helping you make Torah the heart of your home
This is a book about parenting. I hope it will be more than just another how-to book, but will rather encourage you to rise to the great challenge of raising your children and leaving a positive mark on the next generation. This is a book about commitment, commitment to your spouse and commitment to your children. It's also a book about YHVH's commitment to us. I pray it is a blessing to you. This book was first self-published in 2010. I have updated and expanded the material since then. Each section now has a notes section and I encourage you to write all over it. This book makes a great foundation for a group study about parenting as well. Enjoy!
Why talk about ketubahs in a parenting book? A ketubah is a written marriage contract between a husband and a wife. They enter into a covenant relationship and the ketubah lays out the terms. Traditionally, a ketubah is written and decorated beautifully and hung on the couple's wall. Each day, they can look at it and remember their commitment to their spouse and the responsibilities they have. YHVH (the personal name of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) made a covenant with His people, the Children of Israel. The Torah, the first five books of the Bible, tells the story of how He built the nation of Israel, brought them out of Egypt, and made a covenant with them. The Ten Commandments that He gave them on Mount Sinai could be considered His ketubah, His written contract with us, His bride.
What if we wrote a ketubah for our children? What if we wrote down our responsibilities as a parent and our commitment to our children? What if we showed it to our children to help them understand our love and commitment? How would our children respond? How would it change them? How would it change us?
This is a PDF printable. You will not receive a physical book. Printable ketubahs are included.
