We have been doing some neat things in our kitchen lately, aside from washing laundry! Enjoy the picture tour.
Thanks to my father in law, I now have three crockpots lined up on my counter. Two are currently filled with dry beans which will be made up into fermented bean pastes and dips. I’m anxious to make the crockpot a more important tool in my kitchen.
We made some cheddar cheese today. I’m not sure why I bother to put it in the press, since the curds are so good!
We are doing a lovely little science experiment, growing celery from the root end of some celery we purchased! So far, it is doing quite well after soaking in water for a week, so this morning we planted it in a coffee can in some potting soil. I’m excited to see how it does.
I’m also very proud of Naomi, who can now make up water kefir and restart it by herself. It’s one less thing for me to remember. 🙂 We just mix our water kefir with some lemon juice for the best lemonade!
I’m getting ready to ferment several different things for a workshop I’m helping my sister with next week. She will be teaching several ladies how to ferment food, particularly sour kraut. I’m bringing several samples, and plan to share some of the health benefits, particularly in regards to aspergers.
Well, that’s just a little bit of what’s been going on at our house lately. We’ve also been at school for a month now, so I hope to be sending some homeschool posts your way soon. Have a great day!

Oh how I wish I could come to that class! I want to start fermenting but I get overwhelmed! Maybe this winter??? Do you have a cook book or someplace online? I would love to hear how the beans turn out.
I’m going to try to get some pics at our class on Monday, and I’ll post info, resources for you. It’s really easy once you understand the process. 🙂
Oh, and the beans are awesome! Think refried bean dip.
