The Pervasiveness of Witchcraft in our Society

Isn’t it something that we come out of the incredible Fall Feast days — Yah’s appointed times with His people — only to look around and see the world preparing for the highest day of the satanic year?

I was in the dollar store a few days ago, and the cashiers and several customers were all excitedly talking about “Witch Night.” They were laughing and chatting about round-the-clock horror movie marathons. I just stood there in disbelief, wondering how anyone could see this as normal — or even fun.

That moment reminded me how numb our culture has become to spiritual darkness. What used to be hidden is now openly celebrated, and many believers don’t even realize how much of it has quietly slipped into our own homes and habits.

Taking Yah’s Warnings Seriously

Perhaps the real problem is that we don’t take Yah’s warnings against witchcraft and sorcery literally. He told us to stay away because the power behind witchcraft is real.

I know that I have struggled to fully grasp the reality of spiritual warfare. I was raised in a Baptist church that didn’t talk much about it. Angels and demons were acknowledged, but that was about it. It wasn’t until I read This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti as a teenager that the idea of the unseen spiritual realm began to make sense to me. While it’s an artistic interpretation, it opened my eyes to the truth that there is far more happening around us than we realize.

And of course, we know that the enemy hides himself in plain sight and makes his ways look appealing. Just when we think we’ve learned to recognize blatant witchcraft, we discover its more subtle forms.

How Witchcraft Hides in Plain Sight

Witchcraft and paganism aren’t just found in obvious rituals or dark symbols anymore. They’ve become woven into modern life:

  • Endless references to magic and witchcraft in movies and TV
  • Pagan symbolism and sacrifice imagery in the music industry
  • Gods and goddesses used in major brand logos and design
  • Wellness practices rooted in humanism and self-worship
  • Popular alternative health trends with pagan spiritual origins

It’s everywhere — and often disguised as light, beauty, or empowerment. That’s why we must learn to be discerning and test the spirits behind what we bring into our homes.

What Scripture Says

Yah gave us clear and loving instructions for this very reason:

“When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 18:9–12

And again, we are reminded:

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
1 John 4:1

A Practical Checklist for Your Home

We must be diligent as parents and followers of Yah to check our homes for spiritual influences. Use this list as a prayerful guide — not out of fear, but out of a desire to keep your home aligned with His truth and peace. Every step you take to remove confusion and darkness brings your family closer to Him.

1. Start with Prayer and Scripture

☐ Ask Yah to reveal anything in your home or habits that doesn’t honor Him.
☐ Read Deuteronomy 18:9–14 and Ephesians 5:11.
☐ Act in obedience, not superstition or panic.

2. Evaluate Entertainment and Media

☐ Review books, movies, and shows — are they normalizing witchcraft or spiritual power apart from Yah?
☐ Check children’s media for “cute” sorcery or magical themes.
☐ Remove anything that encourages dependence on “energy” or “the universe.”
☐ Choose stories that model faith, virtue, and truth.

3. Examine Health and Wellness Practices

☐ Check supplements, oils, and remedies for mystical claims or “energy alignment.”
☐ Research origins of alternative therapies — do they come from unbiblical spiritual systems?
☐ Ask: Does this honor Yah as the Healer, or human power?
☐ Replace questionable methods with God-given alternatives — herbs, food, rest, prayer, and trust.

4. Review Household Items and Decor

☐ Remove symbols of false gods, zodiac signs, or “good luck” charms.
☐ Research meanings before displaying cultural or spiritual symbols.
☐ Replace with Scripture art, natural beauty, or handmade reminders of Yah’s creation.

5. Check Learning Resources and Curriculum

☐ Review materials for humanism, evolution, or pagan cosmology (astrology).
☐ Choose Scripture-based nature study and creation-focused science.
☐ Teach your children to discern truth through the Word.

6. Guard Your Words and Habits

☐ Avoid phrases like “sending good energy” or “the universe provides.”
☐ Speak blessings from Scripture instead.
☐ Practice gratitude and prayer daily.

7. Replace and Rebuild with Yah’s Ways

☐ Fill your home with worship, study, and conversation centered on Him.
☐ Replace removed items with meaningful, faith-based practices.
☐ Use herbs and natural remedies with thanksgiving, recognizing Yah as Creator and Healer.

Choosing Light Over Darkness

We are instructed to guard and keep the Torah. This means continually examining our lives, habits, media, and even our approach to health and healing.

Guarding our homes is not about fear — it’s about faithfulness. When we walk in Yah’s light, He reveals what doesn’t belong and gives us peace as we replace it with His truth.

I pray this checklist helps you take practical, Spirit-led steps to protect your home and draw your family closer to Him.
